busy day

We got to the greenhouse today before they had the vegetables out!  They had been stored in the trucks and back in the houses the last two nights because of freezing temps.  We got to go into the tomato greenhouse and pick out the ones we wanted!  I threw in a few flowers just to get started.

After an afternoon of yard work,

We had the first grilled burgers of the season.

 

This gave us the energy to get the tomatoes, peppers and squash into the ground, before we called it a day.  We are saving the bean planting for tomorrow, since it is Good Friday--everybody knows you plant beans on that day.

"Okay, so where did spring go?  It was just here yesterday."

Now, this morning here's what we got.

 We want to plant.

We have a picnic scheduled.

 The flowers want to bloom.

The grass needs mowing!

But I'm trapped here inside until spring returns.

I hope this little guy I saw yesterday finds a warm place to hide.

Now just as soon as the predicted cold snap is over on Tuesday night we will be ready for planting.  I sent a group text to see if anyone had a request and I got back: peas, squash, strawberries, corn, beans, tomatoes, eggplant, spaghetti squash, onions, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe and cauliflower.  Maybe we need a bigger space!

This is the scene of the crime.  Peanut decided to do some pruning on this pine tree with a pole saw.  He climbed up the tall ladder and when he cut the branch it flipped back on him and knocked the chain saw into his chest, which knocked him off the ladder and about 10 feet to the left.  He was there alone, so he had to yell for a neighbor who was passing to stop and help him.

 He ended up staying in the hospital for two nights and having only a bruised lung and possibly a fractured rib or ribs.  The doctors who were trying to help him only made it worse by giving him pain medication that he could not tolerate.  We did learn that the best pain drug for him is toradol.  Hopefully he learned not to climb ladders and saw alone.  The window also suffered some significant damage.  Entire incident is filed under lessons learned! Or it seemed like a good idea at the time! 

Lessons Learned

Some things are just too high to reach.

Old people should not be on ladders with pole saws--if it is necessary to break this rule you should take a partner with you.

That limb was just too close to the house.

Take your shirt off before an iv or you will have to keep it on for days.

Pain meds can make some people violently sick to their stomach--stick with those that are not narcotics.

To the hospital staff it is important that they bring a pamphlet about falling and how to quit smoking literature to you at 5:00 a.m.  It’s not enough to leave it  you must wake up and sign for it.  And no the fact that you have never been a smoker does not really matter.

Our kids say that some people have to take the keys from their parents but it looks like they are going to have to take chain saws!

Even when you do something a bit silly, your friends will pray for you and call with concern and the Good Lord will protect you when you are falling off ladders with sharp saws nearby!

I am at the visitor house loading sticks and pine cones into a wheel barrow and dumping them in the woods. It's hot and I would love to go inside to the fridge for a bottle of water, but I can't. I also came over here to open the doors and windows but only the front door is open. I can't go to the back door or through the kitchen. It is a small thing that is stopping me. You see when I started to go through the kitchen, a mouse is caught on a trap right in front of the fridge. I can not walk past it. There's room, but I can't my body freezes in terror!  I know it is not logical. I understand it can not hurt me but I have a physical reaction that I cannot overcome. Today,  I just froze and drew in my breath. Usually there is running and screaming involved!  So maybe I am making progress.

My almost three year old granddaughter, Brynn, calls Bradford Pear trees popcorn trees.  When you think about it that's what it looks like.  I'll never be able to call them anything else!  Today on the Ponderosa the Popcorn Trees are showing out.

Nostalgia 

I spent many hours sitting on the porch steps or the steps at school playing jacks. The ball is not original but the jacks are the ones I had as a child. It's worn away now but the jacks were colored. Today they sit on the mantel in my living room. Anyone up for a game? We will start with ones!

It was hard to find a photo for this prompt. I had to look in several rooms to find something to fit the category. Technically I just cross- stitched the pillow top. My sewing skills are lacking so  I had to hire someone to put it together when I finished the top. It's not that I do not want to sew I just lack talent. I've tried. It didn't go well.

At school yesterday, Parker had to take a survey about his teacher.  He wanted to give me a survey with some of the same questions.  He gave me the following options:  1.  no  2.  maybe  3.  yes
I was suppose to use these to answer his questions.  His first question was Are you a boy or a girl?
