What's on the Grill @ the Ponderosa

Tonight it's hot dogs with the secret sauce and rib eye steak with just butter and a touch of secret sauce! To go along with this we had baked potatoes and baked beans. For later, there is some cheese cake I made in honor of National Cheesecake Day yesterday! It was just the right thing to do to join in this celebration!

What's ON your fridge Friday

This picture of Tracie, it's one of my favorites. It was made when she was in high school. Wonder if she can still do a cart wheel?

Feeding Fish and Rescuing Goats

After supper on the Ponderosa it's a nightly ritual to go and feed the fish in the Ponderosa Pond.
They eat bread or crackers or chips or biscuits-- anything you want to throw in. They even seem to like doritos! There are two large catfish that will come to the top of the water and grab big pieces of whatever is being tossed.
I tried to show you. . .
but I was too slow, and this is all I got.
You can only see the shadow they really are there.
At the pond you can hear the goats in the barn nearby. Last night we heard crying, so we went to the rescue. This one was really stuck.
It managed to get stuck in two fences.

It was really happy to be rescued! It leapt for joy!
Did you know if you use a flash while making pictures of goats, you do not get red-eye
You get blue eyes! Seriously! I don't know if red-eye reduction will remove blue eye!

What's Blooming on the Ponderosa

Purple Pansies
I planted these in a window box container hanging from the deck just before Easter and they are still going strong.

What 's ON your fridge Friday?

This magnet, from an art exhibit we once saw at the Frist Center. In case you don't recognize this painting it is called The Luncheon of the Boating Party by Pierre Auguste Renoir.
This concludes your art lesson for today!

What should we do today?

This morning I was awake, but not up, and thinking about what I should do. More cleaning was about to win, when the phone rang. It was a nice lady and tax client who grows two gardens calling to ask if we would like to buy a bushel of green beans. This solved my problem about what to do today!
With the help of my able assistant who did most of the breaking, while I multi-tasked the washing and blanching, we were able to freeze 15 quarts of beans. We are all set for the winter! It didn't even take the whole day, there was plenty of time left for blogging and laundry! The cleaning can wait until another day.

The War on Moles

mole |mōl| noun a small burrowing insectivorous mammal with dark velvety fur, a long muzzle, and very small eyes.

It's war on the Ponderosa. The moles are leaving these places all over our yard. We have used insecticide. (moles eat grubs and you have to get rid of the grubs!) But it is really expensive when your yard is as large as ours.
Peanut has stomped the hills down.

Even Parker got in on the act

But it still looks like a battlefield
You better watch it moles, he's scratching his head and coming up with a plan.
