You forget

You forget
just how good a strawberry picked out of the patch
can taste!

Gnome Gardens

I spent several hours this weekend creating miniature gnome gardens and generally beautifying the Ponderosa with blooms!
This one is beside the lilac bush and has a house complete with bench, resident gnome and his bluebird friend.  Little hands can rearrange the garden if they want to play in it.
Most of the items used came from the dollar store or I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby for the bench.  The little birdhouse came in a package of six and I super glued it to a wooden kitchen skewer!  The moss is free for the digging here on the Ponderosa, the gladiolus were already there and the hosta spout I dug up from one of the many giant hostas growing around the house.

My second garden is started but it needs some more items for the grand kids to be able to move around.  The plants are moss roses, they look like miniature rose bushes and should spread out and cover the ground as they grow.  The stepping stones are flat, round river rocks. This one has a door instead of a house  I'll be scouring the Mighty Dollar for some more miniatures!
I said I made them for the grand kids, but I enjoy creating them in little spots!  It's starting to look like Rock City around here!

April 12--Take Twelve

It seems I've been lazy and only made one post since last month's Take Twelve!  The last three weeks have been exceptionally warm and plants are budding and blooming too early and people have been tempted to plant before the last frost.  Hopefully this morning was the last one--not only did it frost but the temperature dipped below freezing, bad news for the plants.
We tried to save the strawberry crop with sheets and water!

My chore this morning was to uncover everything!  Then because we can and because it was Thursday my Mom and I went shopping!  We call it bargain shopping, we don't usually buy anything unless it is a good deal!

Just a couple of our stops.
Lunch--we always eat fast food so that we don't waste shopping time.
Some of my favorite purchases today.
Got home in time to inspect the plants for damage and enjoy some sweet potato fries for dinner.  April 12 was another great day on the Ponderosa!

Seen on the Ponderosa Today

While trying to get a picture of the turkeys I made a better picture of the squirrel in the tree.  I did not see it until I was editing the photos.  He is on the lowest limb of the tree.

March 12--Take Twelve

This is my third  time with 12 on the twelfth. (Take 12 pictures of your day on the 12th of each month) It seems that the twelfth day of the month is not very exciting here on the Ponderosa.  Even though I am never bored, these photos might led some to believe it was a boring day, but that's okay I sort of enjoy event free days!
The day began with cereal and the Today show.  This band called One Direction seems to be all the rage.  They are from Britain and there were thousands of screaming young ladies present for their performance.  Until this morning I was completely unaware of their existence. It reminded me of the Beatles, back in the day!
Then it was on to chores involving this machine.
I baked a pie this morning.  The recipe I used is from a cookbook compiled by the ladies in our church years ago.  This recipe belonged to Modean Phillips.  She brought these pies to church dinners and they were very popular and disappeared quickly!
I featured this white nose squirrel in my January 12th post.  I have not seen him again until today.  I find that odd, that he only shows up on the 12th.
This is my view each time I look out the door.  Looks kind of like snow!
If I am going to eat pie, I need to spent some time with my friend, Leslie.
 Modean's French Coconut Pie
 More chores.
I put away all the bargains we found yesterday when we visited  our favorite store, The Mighty Dollar.
Parker's looking forward to St. Patrick's Day to see what mischief the leprechauns bring, so I mailed him a card.
 Supper
Many taxes  are being prepared in my living room by this registered professional tax preparer. He is much cheaper than H & R Block but leaves his "tax table" up in my living room for months!

A Very Good Week

I spent most of the week visiting with the Ponderosa Princesses and the grand kids.  We had loads of fun together.
This cowboy escorted his momma and myself to a tea party in his classroom on Tuesday.
We dressed up and had tea and cookies.  The students had made cards and flowers for their moms and there was a special story and a craft.

We shared a table with some very lovely young ladies!

These two are always entertaining and keep everyone busy taking care of all the feeding and changing and rocking!
Brynn loves  to have fashion shows!
Brooks prefers stealing pacifiers from his sister and practicing his new skill of producing ear-splitting squeals!
We had some sunshine that made us head out to the park for some swinging and playing.

It was a very good week!
